In the biggest offseason move in the National Basketball Association (NBA), the Boston Celtics have traded Jaylen Brown, who is the 2024 NBA Finals Most Valuable Player (MVP) and five-time All-Star player, to the Philadelphia 76ers. According to reports by ESPN Insider, Shams Charania, The Celtics will receive a veteran forward Paul George and two first-round picks and two second-round picks in exchange. This is a move that ends the 10-year journey of Brown with the Boston Celtics as he leaves the franchise that won him an NBA championship. This happens amid Boston's failed efforts to acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo. On the other hand, Philadelphia further cements its core with the addition of Brown next to Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey as the team tries to win a championship.

On the other end, the Boston Celtics get a veteran nine-time All-Star two-way forward in Paul George and draft picks. The report indicates that the Celtics have restructured their team after failing to get Giannis Antetokounmpo and exiting in the first round of the playoffs. Brown had been involved in previous trade rumors while Philadelphia was looking to trade Paul George and build around Embiid and Maxey with a young superstar.
Jaylen Brown and Paul George Enter New Chapters After Contrasting 2025-26 seasons
Brown is heading to Philadelphia after having the best season of his career. With Jayson Tatum sidelined for most of the year due to an Achilles injury, Brown stepped up as Boston's go-to guy, averaging an impressive 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game. He led the Celtics to 56 wins in the regular season, although they faced a tough first-round playoff exit against the 76ers. Over his 10 seasons in the NBA, the 29-year-old has averaged 20.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.9 assists across 674 games. Drafted by Boston in 2016, he has blossomed into a five-time All-Star, received two All-NBA Second Team nods, and was named the 2024 NBA Finals MVP during the Celtics' championship run. Brown is still under his supermax extension, with about three years and roughly $183 million left on his deal.

On the other hand, George, 36, is making his way to Boston after spending the last two seasons with Philadelphia, following stints with the Indiana Pacers, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Los Angeles Clippers. Unfortunately, injuries to his knee, adductor, and finger have limited him to just 78 games over the past two seasons, and a league suspension also interrupted his time with the Sixers. During the 2025-26 season, he averaged 16.7 points in Philadelphia after being one of the league's top scorers for years. Over his career, George has played 945 games, averaging 20.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 3.7 assists, earning nine All-Star selections along the way. His current contract has two seasons left, including a player option for 2027-28. This trade not only brings Boston a seasoned veteran but also adds some draft flexibility, while Philadelphia secures a proven star who’s still in his prime.
