Indian boxer Preeti Pawar booked India’s first gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2026 on Saturday. The 22-year-old locked horns with Canada’s Scarlett Savannah Delgado in the women’s 54 kg category. Pawar kicked off the clash with heavy dominance over her counterpart and landed some heavy blows to take it with a unanimous verdict. Notably, Pawar cruised to the final of the event by recording a lopsided win over Zambia’s Catherine Mwape.
Her semifinal bout saw the Indian boxer dominating right from the opening bell to force a standing count before sweeping it 5-0, with three judges awarding 10-8 scores. In the second round, she once again forced a standing count outboxing her Zambian rival. Pawar put up an aggressive performance in the final round and landed body shots to complete another unanimous decision win.

In the final clash on Saturday, Pawar dominated all three rounds and secured unanimous scores in every round. In the opening round, she swept 5-0 to record early control before producing another 5-0 result in the second. In the final round, Pawar continued her dominance and completed a clean sweep earning a third consecutive 5-0 score and bag India’s first gold in the sport this edition.
Notably, this Gold has added another feather to Pawar’s hat alongside her World Boxing Cup and Asian Championships victories earlier this year. She has remained unbeaten throughout her campaign at the ongoing CWG 2026.
