After missing out on the fifth Test due to COVID-19, Indian captain Rohit Sharma has started net practice. The BCCI released a video of the Indian captain’s practice session where he can be seen playing some of his trademark shots against R Ashwin. Reports say that Sharma had a near 45-minute batting practice session and some fielding drills.

But a cloud of doubt remains on whether he can play a 4-hour highly intense T20I match. It wouldn’t be a surprise if the team management decides to drop Rohit for the 1st game citing health reasons. He will also have to undergo mandatory cardiovascular tests.

The tests will decide on Rohit Sharma’s fitness and participation in the 1st T20 vs England in Southampton on July 7. This report is based on a quote of a top BCCI official who said, “See he had suffered from a bout of COVID. He needs time to recover. He has started training but will he play 1st match or not, it depends on his fitness. Coach and Rohit himself will take a call on the same. We are hopeful he should be ready.”
