The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Selection Committee led by Chetan Sharma on Saturday announced the squad for the Sri Lanka series. An 18-member squad was named for the two-match Test series as well as the three-match T20I series. Also, the BCCI announced the new Test captain of India, and it was none other than Rohit Sharma.

Chetan Sharma cleared that the Indian cricket Board had no other name in their mind and Rohit will continue to lead the team in all-three formats till he is fit to do so. Some more big decisions were announced along with the squads. Apart from naming Rohit captain, Jasprit Bumrah has been given the responsibility to play Rohit's deputy in both formats. Also, the veteran batting duo of Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane finally faced the ax as both the batters have been left out of the Test squad.

Chetan Sharma cleared BCCI's stand and revealed that both Pujara and Rahane have been informed about the board's decision and will be considered for future series only after they perform well in the domestic circuit. While Pujara and Rahane were left out, Ravindra Jadeja made a comeback to the side, both in Tests and T20Is.

With India's regular wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant taking a break from T20Is, Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson have been added to the squad. Also, Samson is in BCCI's scheme of things for the T20 World Cup slated to be played in October-November in Australia this year.
