Fans of Suryakumar Yadav were on cloud nine after the BCCI announced squad for India's upcoming five-match T20I series starting March 12. The 19-member team also included the name of stylish right-handed batsman Suryakumar, who had been knocking the doors of selectors for quite a while. However, soon after his selection in the shortest format squad, a year old comment of current BCCI selector Abey Kuruvilla has hogged the limelight. Notably, a year ago, Kuruvilla had commented "Sky ka time aayega" to a post that believed Suryakumar would don the Indian jersey soon.

Who is Abey Kuruvilla?

Abey Kuruvilla is the current BCCI selector and former India pacer. He holds an experience of playing 35 international matches for India. Out of the 25 ODIs he played, Kuruvilla picked as many wickets, while his 10-match Test career also saw him scalping 25 wickets.

Madan Lal-led CAC had chosen Chetan Sharma, Kuruvilla and Debasis Mohanty as the new Indian selectors in December last year. The the trio replaced Devang Gandhi (East Zone), Sarandeep Singh (North Zone) and Jatin Paranjape (West Zone) in the senior men’s selection committee.

Suryakumar Yadav's sensational batting form

The swashbuckling right-handed batsman has been in terrific form in the past years. Already famous for his batting class and consistency, Suryakumar had a brilliant IPL last year. The batting maestro scored 480 runs in 16 matches for Mumbai Indians. He was second in the list of uncapped Indian batsmen with most runs in the edition. Suryakumar's batting average of 40 and a eye-catching strike rate of 145.01 in the season was the another highlight of his batting form. However, despite his blitzkrieg, he couldn't find a place in India's squad. But the tables seem to have turned now as the selectors finally decided to call him up into the squad for the T20I series against England.
