Morocco defeated Portugal 1-0 to pull off another historic upset in the FIFA World Cup 2022 quarterfinal. The Atlas Lions also became the first African nation to clinch a World Cup semi-final spot in history. The game saw the Portuguese attackers trying and failing to unlock an impenetrable Moroccan defence.
After scoring an early goal, the Atlas Lions sat back and soaked up the pressure to see out the victory. The Moroccan players were overjoyed and emotional as they celebrated the monumental win including forward Sofiane Boufal, who may have given fans the most wholesome celebration of the World Cup.
In a clip that has gone viral on the internet, Boufal is seen dancing with his mother in front of Morrocan fans. The pair are seen holding hands and dancing in elation as a sea of red cheers them on.

After the game, one of the heroes of this incredible victory, Yassine Bounou talked about how he is still dreaming after reaching the semi-finals. He then stated that this ‘miracle victory’ will act as a catalyst for the growth of the sport in the next generations.
“Pinch me, I think I’m dreaming,” Yassine Bounou said. “These moments are great, but we’re here to change the mentality. With this feeling of inferiority, we have to get rid of it. The Moroccan player can face any in the world. The generation coming after us will know we can create miracles,” he continued.
