In the aftermath of the FIFA World Cup 2022 final, riots broke out in many French cities as Les Bleus suffered a heartbreaking defeat against Argentina. France failed to win back-to-back World Cups as the final saw six brilliant goals and a penalty shootout where La Abliceste clinched the elusive trophy. Lionel Messi scored twice but Kylian Mbappe did him one better as the young forward scored a magical hat trick.
But despite these heroics, Mbappe couldn’t carry Les Bleus over the finish line. Hence after the finals, thousands of football fans poured into the streets in Paris, Nice and Lyon. This commotion created chaos on the streets even as police personnel tried to defuse the situation. Whereas, several Police officers were also being attacked with rocks and fireworks.

But the public reaction near the Argentine embassy in Paris was diametrically different. At the embassy, a few blocks from the iconic Arc de Triomphe monument, countless Argentinian fans celebrated in joy after the victory. Earlier before the final on Sunday, around 14,000 police officers were on duty across France to ensure security.
Similar Riots had previously erupted across Europe after several World Cup games in recent weeks. Similar unrest was seen in France and Belgium after Les Bleus registered a victory over Morocco on Wednesday. Moroccan fans had a violent reaction after the Atlas Lions lost in the World Cup semi-finals as there was destruction on the streets of France with flares and fireworks. A 14-year-old boy was also killed in these clashes as well.
