Indian women's hockey team skipper Savita Punia has revealed Team India will celebrate their bronze medal win in the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 with 'elaichi wali chai instead of champagne'. Team India defeated New Zealand in the penalty shootout to secure the bronze medal in women's hockey.

In an interview, Savita Punia asserted that while other teams celebrate their important victories by drinking champagne generally but the Indian side required tea.

"Everybody asked me " what do you want, what do you want?" I said I need a good elaichi wali chai - Vandana is going to make it for me. When other teams win, they celebrate with champagne, but we need good tea. The celebration will go on, team is together. We are happy to see each other," Savita Punia told Times Now.

India was leading the game against New Zealand by 1-0 in the second quarter but the Kiwis equalised the score in the final 30 seconds of the game to force a penalty shootout. India won the penalties by 2-1 as New Zealand missed all four of their attempts after scoring the first stroke.
