As the tennis stars eye to make a comeback at the US Open 2025 - the last major of the year, ahead of it, World No. 2 ranked Carlos Alcaraz reined supreme over his rival and World No. 1 ranked Jannik Sinner. The Spaniard, who came into the tournament after going down 6-4, 4-6, 4-6, 4-6 at the Wimbledon 2025 finale, went on to beat his Italian opponent at the ATP Cincinnati Open on Monday, August 18.

Alcaraz, who setup a finale clash with Sinner after beating Alexander Zverev of Germany 6-4, 6-3 on Sunday, went past the challenge with the top-ranked retiring due to an illness in the first set. While the Italian came into the final feeling unwell and lost the first seven points, he threw the towel at 0-5.

With this, the Spaniard won his 22nd career title, which was also his 17th victory in a row at the Masters 1000 level. Moreover, with a win on Monday, the 22-year-old now leads Sinner 9-5. Speaking at the trophy presentation, the Spaniard said, “Obviously it’s not the way that I wanted to win the final. I’m just really, really happy to be able to leave the trophy, since I just lost that final in 2023 (to Novak Djokovic) I just wanted really, really badly this, this trophy, so I’m just really proud and happy to be able to lift it.”
