The Indian Women’s team created history on Sunday, November 2 as they defeated South Africa Women by 52 in the final in Navi Mumbai to clinch their first-ever Women’s ODI World Cup title. After years of heartbreak and finishing as the runners-up twice, India Women finally got their hands on an ICC title in front of their home crowd. On this special occasion, the members of the Indian team unveiled a new team song that was kept secret for a long time.

Amanjot Kaur played a key role in India’s triumph with her all-rounder performances throughout the tournament. In the final, Amanjot also showed her heroics on the field by taking a crucial catch of South African captain Laura Wolvaardt that shifted the momentum of the game towards India. However, off the field, Amanjot’s family also made sure that she only focuses on helping India win the World Cup despite her grandmother’s ill health.

Amanjot Kaur’s father didn’t inform her about her grandmother’s ill health

Amanjot Kaur’s father Bhupinder Singh revealed that her 75-year-old grandmother Bhagwanti suffered a heart attack last month. However, the family didn’t inform their cricketer daughter about this as she was already a part of the Indian team in the World Cup and they didn’t want her to lose her focus.

“My mother Bhagwanti has been Amanjot’s pillar of strength since the day she started playing cricket outside on the street and the park at our Phase 5 residence in Mohali. While I would be at my carpentry shop at Balongi, she would make sure to sit outside the home or at the park to oversee Amanjot playing with the boys as well as other girls. After she suffered a heart attack last month, we did not tell Amanjot about it and the last few days have seen us spending time in hospitals for her treatment. The World Cup win has surely come as a balm in these tense times for us,” Bhupinder told Indian Express.
