On Sunday, August 31, Caribbean Premier League (CPL) franchise Antigua and Barbuda Falcons issued an apology while clarifying on head coach Paul Nixon’s remarks. It comes days after their franchise head coach had publicly criticised Cricket West Indies for failing to handle all-rounder Justin Greaves’ injury. The comments from Nixon came after the side’s eight-wicket defeat to Trinidad and Tobago on August 27. In his comments, the head coach alleged that the franchise had no communication from CWI over Greaves injury and as a result it made an impact of the side’s ongoing CPL 2025 campaign.
“I'm very disappointed that we've had no communication with Cricket West Indies in their backroom department for Greaves to come in to us a bit injured, more than a bit injured. So, that was disappointing. And just before the game, we found out these things. So, for me, that was a bit unprofessional and disrespectful, in a way," he said as quoted by the Indian Express.
Paul Nixon regrets any and all remarks made: Antigua and Barbuda Falcons
On Sunday, take to social media, the CPL franchise went out loud to issue an apology on the same, writing, "We want to emphasize that there was no intention to offend or undermine the efforts of Cricket West Indies (CWI). Nixon totally regrets any and all remarks made. Both Paul Nixon and the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons apologize for any unintended implications or offense these comments may have caused to CWI management and staff.”
“We remain firmly committed to fostering a strong and collaborative partnership with CWI, one that is grounded in mutual respect and open, constructive dialogue to advance West Indies cricket,” the statement further added.
Speaking of the franchise, the Imad Wasim-led side lost their match against Saint Lucia Kings on Sunday, August 31 by six wickets and are placed third in the points table with seven points from three victories. They will next play Barbados Royals on September 5 at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.
