Former Australia wicket-keeper batter Brad Haddin has replied to India legend Sunil Gavaskar, who said that foreign players should not intervene in matters pertaining to Team India. Following Shreyas Iyer’s omission from India’s squad for the continental tournament, a lot of former cricketing figures gave their opinions. Ex-Aussie stalwart Haddin revealed that he was stunned after noting Iyer missing from the team. Gavaskar, who pens columns for Sportstar, wrote that India’s cricketing matters are none of foreign players’ business.
Haddin recently spoke to the LiSTNR YouTube channel and replied to Sunil Gavaskar’s remark. The 47-year-old said that a lot of foreign names work with Team India players during IPL so they have ample knowledge regarding Indian cricket. "Our job is to give an opinion on what's topical in world cricket. That's what we do. We coached him (Iyer) in the IPL and I stand by my take. I was shocked that he wasn't in the squad and I am not saying the other players (selected) shouldn't be there. The reason I say that is because just the way he handled our group, he was a great leader and the way he played under pressure, leading from the front. But, yeah, they are obviously going well even with players like him on the sideline," said Haddin.
