With speculations hitting the roof on Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and and star batter Virat Kohli’s future, former India cricketer Manoj Tiwary recently opened up around the same. It is to be noted that the senior batters recently put down curtains on their Test career after earlier announcing retirement from T20Is after India’s T20 World Cup 2024 triumph in Barbados.

However they remain active in the 50-over format only, there have been speculations around their future. While their last assignment in the Indian jersey came in March 2025 in the ICC Champions Trophy, they were initially scheduled to return to the field in August for white-ball series against Bangladesh, but a postponement has delayed their return, pushing it to October 2025.

It is going to be difficult if he doesn't work hard on his fitness: Manoj Tiwary on Rohit Sharma’s future

As they continue to sit on the sidelines, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently introduced Bronco test. Elaborating on the same, the test is known to measure aerobic endurance apart from pushing the limits of cardiovascular work from the players, especially fast bowlers. Seeing the inclusion of this test in the fitness routine of the Indian players, the former Indian batter sees it as a move which could eventually end Rohit Sharma’s career.

Speaking in an interview with CricTracker, Tiwary was inquired how he sees Rohit-Virat’s future. To this the 39-year-old responded, “I think it will be very difficult to keep out Virat Kohli from the plans for 2027 World Cup. But I have a doubt that they are going to look at Rohit Sharma into the scheme of things because… .” “See, I'm a very keen observer what things are going on in Indian cricket. And I believe this Bronco Test, which was introduced a few days back, I think it is for the players like Rohit Sharma and someone who I believe they don't want them to be part of the team in future. And that's why it has been introduced,” he added.

“So it is a question for which I don't have an answer, but the observation says that it is going to be difficult for Rohit Sharma if he doesn't work really hard on his fitness. And I think he will be stopped at the Bronco Test,” Manoj Tiwary concluded.
