Just days ago, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) broke silence on the tragic stampede which occurred hours after the Rajat Patidar-led side lifted their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) title on June 4. Hours after their maiden title win, which saw them beat Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahemdabad, RCB organised a victory parade-cum trophy tour at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
The celebrations turned into tragedy with 11 people losing their lives and left over 40 injured out the stadium premises. However, the franchise announced INR 10 Lakh compensation to the families of the deceased, on Saturday, August 30, they further announced INR 25 Lakh to families of the victims, opening up after three months.

Recently, star batter and former captain of the side, Virat Kohli also opened up on the same. Taking to X, the Indian batter expressed grief on the incident, while extending prayers to the victims. In a post shared on X by RCB, Kohli stated, “Nothing in life really prepares you for a heartbreak like June 4th. What should’ve been the happiest moment in our franchise’s history… turned into something tragic.”
“I’ve been thinking of and praying for the families of those we lost… and for our fans who were injured. Your loss is part of our story now. Together, we will move forward with care, respect and responsibility,” he added. Although, this isn't Kohli’s first reaction as just hours after the news broke out, he took to Instagram, writing, “At a loss for words. Absolutely gutted.”
While it is not easy to go past the event as it has resulted in a lot of implications following the tragic stampede. Recently, the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium of Bengaluru lost the hosting rights for the Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 after failing to get a nod. The matches which were initially scheduled at the venue, have been now moved to DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai.
