Australia top-order batter Matthew Short has issued warning to star India batter Virat Kohli prior to the second ODI to be played in Adelaide on October 23. Kohli, who made a comeback in international cricket with his appearance in the first ODI in Perth, got dismissed on a duck against Mitchell Starc, who pushed the batting maestro towards the outside off stump. In the Adelaide ODI, eyes will be set on Virat again as his supporters will want him to deliver a fine knock to India in the do-or-die match. After the seven-wicket loss against Australia in the opening game, Kohli has the perfect opportunity to step up and play a match-winning innings for the Men in Blue.
However, Short has said that Australia pacers will strive to exploit Virat Kohli’s weakness in the second match as well. “I’m not in the fast-bowling meetings, but that seems to be the way he has been getting out recently. Some of the guys like ‘Hoff’ (Josh Hazlewood) and ‘Starcy’ (Mitchell Starc) have bowled a lot against him; they know what they’re doing. In Perth, they let the conditions do much of the work with a bit of swing and seam, so I’m sure they’ll do the same again,” said Short while speaking to the media in Adelaide.
Matthew Short commended Virat Kohli’s aura
Matthew Short also expressed his admiration for Kohli. “It’s pretty cool to share the field with such a legend of the sport. I’ll definitely get the chance to have a chat with him at some stage throughout the series. But it’s going to be a cool way for him to go out, especially with so many fans here in Australia,” added Short.
In Adelaide, Kohli’s record is superb as he has notched up 244 runs with two hundreds in four matches at an average of 61.00. Team India supporters will want their star batter to come heavily on Australia’s bowling attack on Thursday.
