Team India Test batter Cheteshwar Pujara announced retirement from all forms of cricket on August 24, 2025. He retired from all forms of the sport after playing it for 20 years. Serving Team India from 2010 to 2023, he ended up as the eight-leading run-getter for the side in red-ball cricket, with 7195 runs in 176 innings of 103 matches. The top-order batter was out of the national squad for the last 26 months so his decision to retire wasn’t a surprise.

A day after the retirement, Pujara’s wife Puja Pabari dropped an emotional post through her Instagram handle and appreciated the 37-year-old for his dedication to the sport. “‘Be in the present as the present is the present of the supreme presence’ - a guiding principle of the Bhagvad Gita which is something you have been living by for quite sometime now, and hope it continues to guide you in this next phase! As you bid goodbye to your first love, passion and the sport you love so much, I am glad you always gave it your all and played the game in your own calm and dignified way!”, wrote Pabari through her Instagram handle.

Puja Pabari wished all the best to her husband for life after retirement

In the post, Puja Pabari also wished her husband all the best to Cheteshwar Pujara after retirement. She also said that she would miss cheering Pujara at the stadium. “From knowing nothing about cricket to loving you and the sport through your eyes—your journey has been a true education in life’s lessons for me, and I couldn’t be more grateful to have gone through the highs and lows of your career together! I will miss cheering you on the field, following the unshakeable routines, and at times maybe also the anxiousness before a match/series. For all the missed celebrations and adjustments made in order to prioritize cricket, let’s make up for it now,” added Puja.

During his immense career, Pujara enjoyed some major success with Team India. The side won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2018/19 and 2020/21 and Pujara was a part of both victories. In the 2021 triumph, he chipped in with 271 runs with three half-centuries in eight innings of four games.
