Shreyas Iyer has talked about his Asia Cup 2025 snub for the first time recently. This year, Iyer has looked majestic with his bat for India in white-ball cricket. In the Men in Blue’s third Champions Trophy title success, he played an instrumental role with his bat. Notching up 243 runs in five matches at an average of 48.60, he ended up as the second-leading run-getter in the Champions Trophy 2025. Following the ICC event, Shreyas donned Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) jersey in IPL 2025 and emerged as the most successful batter for his team, amassing 604 runs in 17 matches.
Noting these scintillating performances, Iyer was expected to get a spot in India’s Asia Cup 2025 squad but that didn’t happen. The 30-year-old supporters were rankled at the BCCI for ignoring him for the continental tournament. Recently, Iyer appeared on the IQOO podcast and revealed how he felt after being left out of India’s squad. “It is only frustrating when you know you deserve to be in the team, in the playing XI. That time, it is frustrating but at the same time, when you know that someone is performing consistently for the team, you support them. Eventually, the goal is for the team to win and when the team is winning, everyone is happy,” said Iyer.

Shreyas Iyer expected to deliver a tough time to Australia A
Shreyas has been announced captain of India A side that will square off against Australia A in multi-day and one-day matches to be played between September 16 and 30. As skipper, he will look to be at his best to send the Aussie side with a defeat. Prior to the Australia A assignment, eyes will be set on BCCI selectors whether they will select Iyer for the upcoming two-match Test series against the West Indies at home, next month.
The right-handed batter played his last Test match in Visakhapatnam in February 2024. Discussing his batting numbers in red-ball cricket, he has scored 811 runs with a hundred and five fifties in 24 innings of 11 matches.
