There are certain issues or as one would say, pertinent issues with the Indian team that can no longer be shoved under the carpet and hence, must be immediately attended to. Long after the rather debatable and at times, risky selection choices pertaining to the white ball format of the team led to a situation where the fan felt that perhaps only Gautam Gambhir knows what he’s doing, along comes another subject with regard to the T20 international opener, Abhishek Sharma.

At a time where it’s somewhere become a trendy subject to always lambast Sanju Samson and hold him responsible for inconsistencies with the bat, due to which he’s often been told to sit out of the playing eleven, one wonders if anyone can even ignore what Abhisek Sharma is doing- or not doing much with the bat, as it seems?

In the recently concluded T20I series, which much to the Indian cricket fans’ liking, the visiting side won against Zimbabwe, Abhishek Sharma was missing out on runs. And that was sadly the case in each of the 3 T20 internationals that India played against- and at- Zimbabwe.

So what really happened?

In the final contest of the series, Sharma scored 2. Previously, he scored 8 and before that, which was the opening game of the three match T20I series, Abhishek scored just 1.

How can it be justified anymore when your opening batter makes 3 single digit scores all throughout the series and that too, against an opponent that is perhaps not the most dangerous side in world cricket.

What’s more?

If you were to look at Abhishek Sharma’s last 5 outings with the bat in the very format, then you’d be surprised to find that he’s managed a highest score of 16. With scores of 3 and 16, Abhishek Sharma was found wanting with the bat against England.

His last half century in the T20I format came nearly seven or eight innings ago and is desperately searching for runs. One wonders, what does the current administration have to say about the left hander’s complete lack of form?

And more importantly, will the struggling for runs batter keep finding a place in the Indian side until further ado?
