Jammu & Kashmir cricketer Fareed Hussain died on August 20 after losing his life in a road accident that took place in Poonch. Hussain was on his bike when a man abruptly opened the door of his car as the cricketer was about to pass by the vehicle. The car’s door struck Fareed, who lost control over the bike and fell on the ground and he got fatally injured. The incident was captured on CCTV and passers-by came for his assistance. Eventually, Fareed passed away and left Poonch and the entire Kashmir grieving.

Fareed’s unfortunate death reminded cricket supporters of the demise of other cricketers such as Andrew Symonds and Runako Morton, who lost their lives in road accidents. In March 2012, Morton lost control of the car and collided with a pole while driving on a highway in Chaguanas, Trinidad and Tobago. In May 2022, Australia all-round legend Andrew Symonds also lost his life in a car accident when his vehicle overturned off the road in Queensland.

Rishabh Pant survived a car accident in 2022

Seven months after Andrew Symonds’ demise, India wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant also met with a car accident while driving on the Delhi-Dehradun highway. On December 30, 2022, Pant’s BMW got hit with a road divider on the highway. The stumper-batter got severe injuries on his back, head and leg.

The injuries kept Pant away from cricket for 15 months. In March 2024, he made a comeback in competitive cricket with his appearance for Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He also went on to serve Team India in the T20 World Cup 2024 and played an instrumental role in the side’s title win.
