Pakistan wicket-keeper batter Mohammad Rizwan has stepped into a controversy as PTI report states that he is refusing to sign Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) new central contract. Recently, PCB superseded Rizwan with Shaheen Shah Afridi in the ODI captaincy role. As per media reports, Rizwan’s demotion happened because he refused to endorse betting companies. However, Rizwan’s captaincy performance wasn’t also upto the mark under his leadership, Pakistan failed to defend the Champions Trophy title and also registered a 1-2 defeat against the West Indies (WI) in August.
Discussing more about Mohammad Rizwan’s central contract controversy, reports state that Rizwan is discontented with his demotion and non-selection in the T20I side. Rizwan, who has been among 30 contracted players, hasn’t signed up the contract yet. This act alludes that Rizwan is exhibiting his defiant side. In the latest move, PCB has also done away with the elite Category A, which included players such as Rizwan, Babar Azam, and Shaheen Shah Afridi.
Mohammad Rizwan’s demands from PCB
Amidst these circumstances, Rizwan has also kept his demands in front of PCB. As per reports, the 33-year-old wants instant reinstatement of the elite category for senior players and while his second demand is that the newly appointed skipper Shaheen is given a clear tenure and liberty to implement his tactics without the board’s interference.
Pakistan will play their next ODI series under their new skipper Shaheen in the three-match 50-over series against South Africa at home in November. The opening ODI will be played against the Proteas at the Iqbal Stadium on November 4. Shaheen’s task will be to recollect the team and play quality cricket against the visitors to win the upcoming series.
