Following the Bengaluru stampede outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium during Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) maiden title celebration in June, the stadium was deemed unsuitable and unsafe to host large-scale events by the Justice John Michael Cunha Commission. The horrendous incident claimed 11 lives and left more than 50 injured. Bengaluru’s iconic cricket venue was expected to host upcoming ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup matches but following the stampede, there were headlines that the venue’s right to host the games could be snatched.

In a latest development, Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium has replaced Chinnaswamy to host ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 games. Navi Mumbai will conduct five games at the most, including three league contests and most probably two knockout matches, depending on whether Pakistan makes the tournament final. "Navi Mumbai has emerged as a genuine home for women’s cricket in recent years. The support it has received during international fixtures and the Women’s Premier League has been remarkable, creating an atmosphere that elevates the players and inspires fans," stated ICC President Jay Shah through a press release.

ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup to begin from September 30

The ICC Women's Cricket World Cup will be played from September 30 to November 2 as India along with Sri Lanka are the hosts of the event. During the event, 31 games will be played and eight teams will contest among one another. Australia will defend the title as they won the last edition of the tournament after beating England in the final played in Christchurch.

India have never won any ICC titles in senior women's cricket, so this time, they will look to lift the coveted trophy under Harmanpreet Kaur’s captaincy. The final of the competition will either be held in Navi Mumbai or Colombo. If India and Pakistan clash against each other in knockouts, the game will be played among the arch-rivals in Colombo.
