Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament (MP) Priyanka Chaturvedi has berated the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for allowing Team India to take on Pakistan in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 men's cricket tournament to be played next month in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). India and Pakistan will clash against each other at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on September 14, 2025. Chaturvedi highlighted Pakistan’s decision to withdraw from the upcoming Hockey Asia Cup 2025 to be played in India from August 27 to September 7.
Taking to her X handle, Chaturvedi wrote a long note and also remembered the families of victims of the Pahalgam terror attack that took place on April 22, 2025. "While Pakistan Hockey team snubbed the Asia Cup Hockey matches hosted in India. Our BCCI is super keen to keep the cricket match between the two going by announcing the India Team for Asia Cricket Cup. Can’t imagine the betrayal the families of those who lost their loved ones in Pahalgam must feel," wrote Chaturvedi.
Pakistan pulled out of Hockey Asia cup citing security concerns
Pakistan cited security issues and pulled out of the upcoming Hockey Asia Cup 2025. Hockey India Secretary General Bhola Nath Singh questioned Pakistan’s decision to opt out from the competition. "Why isn't Pakistan coming? Why are they not participating? Why are they not participating? This is not clear to us," said Singh.
Singh claimed security arrangements in India are much better than that of Pakistan. "There is no such issue in India, I don't think there is any such problem in our country,” added Bhola Nath Singh. However, despite Pakistan’s withdrawal, organisers are unfazed and they are looking to make the upcoming sporting event colossal as hosts.
