Recently, there were several rumours going on that the BCCI has offered former captain MS Dhoni to become mentor of Team India for the next T20 World Cup in 2026. After this, the fans were excited to see if Dhoni accepts the offers and works with Head Coach Gautam Gambhir for the upcoming tournament. However, there hasn’t been any official announcement neither from Dhoni nor from the BCCI.

It will be revealed soon whether MS Dhoni accepts the offer to mentor Team India for the T20 World Cup 2026. However, former cricketer Manoj Tiwary took a dig on the former India captain when he learned about these rumours. During his interview with ANI, the reported asked Manoj Tiwary about the rumours of BCCI offering a mentorship role to Dhoni. To this, Tiwary replied “"Ye to samay he batayega. Woh phone uthaye hain na? (Only time will tell. Did he pick up the phone?"

"Jahaan tak mujhe pataa hain phone pe milna bohot mushkil hai woh! Message ka reply bhi milta bohot kam hai. Bohot saare players apne samay main kahaa bhi hai. Pataa nahi woh reply kya karenge… woh message padhenge ki nahi padhenge (As far as I know, it’s difficult to reach him on the phone. Replies to messages from him are also very rare; many players have said this. Will he read the message or not, we don’t know.)," he further added.

The pairing of MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir will be worth watching: Manoj Tiwary

Speaking further, Manoj Tiwary also said that it will be great to watch MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir pairing as a Mentor and Head Coach respectively for India in the upcoming T20 World Cup. Notably, Dhoni was also appointed as Mentor for the 2021 T20 World Cup. However, it didn’t turn out to be a great outing for Men in Blue as they were knocked out from the league stage. Talking about Gambhir, this will be his second ICC tournament as India Head Coach after the Champions Trophy 2025.

"The first thing is whether he (Dhoni) will accept the role or not. It’s very difficult for me to predict what impact he will bring. His experience as a captain and player will be very useful, as the new players emerging today and becoming stars of the Indian team give him a lot of respect. They will listen to him," Manoj Tiwary said.

"The pairing of MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir will also be worth watching. It will be outstanding. Let's wait and watch, time will tell," he further added.
