On Friday, August 22, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared an advertisement on their official website to invite applications for national selection positions for senior men’s and women’s teams apart from junior men’s team. As far as the Indian men’s cricket team is concerned, there are two positions open for national selector, and one of them is reportedly set to go to former India international Pragyan Ojha.

While there is no information around which of the two current members of the national selection committee are set to be replaced, it is understood that S Sharath from South Zone will be leaving his position after completing the term, as per the report published in Cricbuzz. With that, Pragyan Ojha, who is 38 years of age, could be taking the position of S Sharath of South Zone after representing them and Hyderabad in domestic cricket during his playing days.

Ajit Agarkar to stay as chief selector of Indian men's cricket team

The chief selector of India’s selection committee in senior men’s cricket, Ajit Agarkar, who comes from the West Zone, along with Ajay Ratra from the East Zone, are set to be retained as their respective terms began in recent times along with Pragyan Ojha. With that, either one of SS Das and Subrato Banerjee, who have represented the East Zone in their playing days, could be leaving the position of national selector before getting replaced by someone from the Central Zone in all likelihood.

The eligibility criteria for becoming a national selector of Team India in men’s cricket is quite an elaborate one on the BCCI website with three specific conditions, which read, “Minimum of 7 Test Matches; or 30 First-Class Matches; or 10 ODIs and 20 First-Class Matches, must have retired from the game at least 5 years prior, and must not have been a member of any Cricket Committee of the BCCI for a cumulative period of 5 years.”

Once the two national selector positions are filled in due course, then they will start working on picking the players for the subsequent matches of the Indian cricket team.
