Top-order batter Prithvi Shaw has faced a fine of INR 100 from Mumbai Court in the molestation case filed by the internet influencer Sapna Gill. In February 2023, when Shaw visited a pub in Andheri, as per reports, he was approached for a selfie by Sapna’s friend Shobhit Thakur which led to an argument among the three as the young cricketer declined the requests. The matter got worse when Prithvi was leaving the venue with his friend Ashish Surendra Yadav. As per a report from police, Shobhit was attacked with a baseball bat following which a group of six people went after Prithvi and demanded INR 50,000. Later, police filed a case against the group and detained Gill.

However, Gill later came up with an assertion that during the selfie incident, Shaw physically and sexually assaulted her. In the latest development, Shaw has been fined for not responding to Gill's criminal revision petition, which challenges a magistrate court's earlier decision to not register an FIR against the player. The session court requested Shaw for his reply earlier as well but no response came from the cricketer. By the next hearing on December 16, the 25-year-old has to deliver his reply to the court. "Still, one more chance is granted for a cost of Rs 100," remarked the judge before announcing the next hearing date.

Prithvi Shaw’s struggle in domestic cricket

In the last few years, Prithvi Shaw has not only faced problems in his personal life but professional life as well. In 2024, he was dropped from Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy side due to lack of discipline and fitness issues. The youngster also went unsold in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction, held in Jeddah.

His last domestic match for Mumbai came in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 final against Madhya Pradesh in December 2024. In the contest, he got dismissed after scoring only 10 runs off six balls. This year, he will be seen in action for Maharashtra in domestic cricket.
