With England’s County Championship reaching its penultimate stage, Surrey have been handed a massive boost ahead of their finale against Hampshire, set to be played from Wednesday, September 24 at The Rose Bowl in Southampton. The Surrey side have added Indian cricketer and leg-spinner Rahul Chahar into their ranks ahead of the final.

This move comes after the 26-year-old was on Surrey’s books since early September. But a string of injuries in the side, especially in the spin department, forced the cricket club to make this decision. Notably, if Surrey plays Chahar, he will be making his County cricket debut at the Utilita Bowl.

Excited to join Surrey: Rahul Chahar ahead of Surrey vs Hampshire County Championship final

Speaking after the announcement was confirmed by the county club, the 26-year-old spinner expressed excitement. "I'm excited to join Surrey for this week's match. I'm coming here to have an impact and help the team in their final match of the season," Chahar said. Surrey Advisor Alec Stewart also spoke at length on Rahul Chahar’s addition into the side ahead of the County Championship final.

"Adding Rahul to the squad gives us another spin option at the Utilita Bowl...We had originally earmarked for Sai Kishore to return for the latter stages of the season but he unfortunately has a finger injury resulting in an operation that has meant he was unavailable,” Stewart said.

Speaking of Chahar, the leg-spinner plies his trade for Rajasthan in domestic cricket setup. He has picked up 87 wickets from 24 First-Class matches to his name. Well for India, he has played only seven games between 2019 and 2021. He was part of the IPL 2025 with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), but did not feature in any game this season.
