Online abuse targeting Travis Head’s wife, Jessica Davies , erupted after an on-field flashpoint between Head and Virat Kohli during an Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) match. The incident occurred during a high-stakes match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), which Hyderabad won by 55 runs.
While on-field aggression is a routine aspect of elite cricket, a toxic segment of Kohli’s massive fan base carried the grudge off the field, launching a coordinated cyber-harassment campaign against Head and his inner circle. Trolls flooded Jessica Davies’ personal Instagram account, targeting completely unrelated posts, including the couple's wedding photos from three years ago.
Comments sections were inundated with highly derogatory, sexist insults. This included highly offensive, viral slurs translating to "your wife gets sold in India". Beyond insults, toxic accounts issued vile threats of physical violence, rape, and death threats directed at Jessica, her friends, and the couple's two young children.
Speaking to the Australian media outlet The Advertiser, Jessica Davies broke her silence regarding the severe wave of digital bullying: "It feels like a repeat of the abuse that happened after the World Cup... we are fine, but they are attacking my friends and family," she told The Advertiser. Highlighting the need for perspective in sport, she emphasized that while passion is part of the game, it should not excuse targeting families, hoping for more kindness and support.
What led to this trolling to Travis Head’s family and friends?
The online backlash against Travis Head’s family and friends was triggered by a highly publicised, heated on-field altercation between Head and Virat Kohli during an IPL 2026 match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
During RCB's run chase, cameras captured an intense verbal spat between the two players. Reports indicate that Travis Head provoked Kohli by encouraging him to play more attacking shots. Kohli responded sarcastically, mocking Head's frequent deployment as an "Impact Player" and telling Head he should try bowling instead of sitting off the field.
The tension escalated when Kohli was dismissed shortly after for 15 runs, prompting Head to fire back with another comment. Following SRH’s commanding 55-run victory, Head extended his hand to Kohli during the customary post-match greetings. Kohli actively ignored Head's extended hand and walked straight past him while greeting other SRH players.
The video of this handshake snub immediately went viral, acting as the main catalyst for fan outrage. The incident reignited lingering hostility from a subset of fans who blamed Head for India’s high-profile cricket losses. Head has historically been a chief tormentor of the Indian team, notably scoring a match-winning century against India in the 2023 ODI World Cup Final, which previously subjected his family to similar severe digital bullying.
