After becoming vice-captain in the Test format, star Indian wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant is now also in contention to lead Team India in the ODI format. The Men in Blue are scheduled to play a three-match ODI series against South Africa at home starting on November 30. However, ahead of the series, the main concern for India will be availability of captain Shubman Gill who suffered a neck injury during the first Test against the Proteas.

Due to this, Gill has been out of action since then and is also doubtful to lead India in the ODI series against South Africa. Apart from that, India’s vice-captain Shreyas Iyer is also recovering from the blunt impact injury to his left lower rib cage occurred during the Australian tour and he is also unlikely to play in the upcoming ODI series. In that case, the BCCI will be looking to appoint a new ODI captain for the South Africa series. As reported by the Revsportz, Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul turned out to top contenders to lead India in the ODI matches against Proteas.

BCCI to announce Indian squad for ODI series vs South Africa soon

The BCCI is yet to announce the squad for the upcoming ODI series against South Africa and is likely to make the announcement soon. The first match of the series will be played at JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi on November 30. With this, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will also be seen returning in action for Men in Blue after the ODI series in Australia in October.

However, there can be multiple changes in the Indian ODi squad due to Shryeas Iyer and Shubman Gill's injuries. As reported by the PTI, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is also likely to miss the ODI series and will focus more in the T20I format to prepare for the T20 World Cup at home next year.
