India’s golden run at Commonwealth Games 2026 continued on Saturday, August 1 with Sakshi Chaudhary and Priya Ghanghas’ dominance in the boxing ring. The Indian boxers added two more gold medals in the Indian tally to take up the medal count to 33. Chaudhary, who competes in women’s 51 kg boxing defeated England’s Ruby White by a unanimous 5-0 decision and secured a top-podium finish for the Indian side. On the other hand, Priya Ghanghas took down Canada’s Marie-Bathoul Al-Ahmadieh 4-1 on points to get India fourth gold in the edition.
Talking about Chaudhary’s fight for the gold, she had control of the game right from the opening bell. She made use of her superior height and dictated the pace of the bout to claim the opening round unanimously before tightening her grip in the second one. The second round saw her being scored 10-9 by three judges, while one awarded the round to White and another gave the Indian boxer a dominant 10-8 judgement. In the final one, the 25-year-old kept delivering sharp jabs and cleaning punches to keep her English opponent under pressure and ended up winning the summit clash.

Priya Ghanghas Follows Sakshi Chaudhary to Take Home Another Gold

Ghanghas, who competes in the women’s 60 kg boxing, got the better of Marie-Bathoul Al-Ahmadieh 4-1 to extend India’s dominance in the sport. Fighting in Blue, Ghanghas put up her accuracy, composure and ability to respond as her rival sought a comeback during three rounds. She was awarded in favour by four judges while one scored in favour of the Canadian.
Following her win, she said, "It feels wonderful to have won a gold medal for the country in my first Commonwealth Games. Celebrations are underway everywhere in the village and at home. Weight management is a major issue in boxing, so I had given up sweets and things like that. Now, I’ll finally get to eat sweets. Jalebis, and since it's currently Ghevar season, I’ll have some Ghevar...I dedicate this medal to my entire country."
Apart from Priya Ghanghas and Sakshi Chaudhary, Jaismine Lamboria won a gold for India in women’s 57 kg category while Preeti Pawar bagged the yellow metal in 54 kgs respectively.
