After an embarrassing defeat against England Women in their first match of the tournament, South Africa Women finally got a win in the ongoing Women’s World Cup 2025 as they defeated New Zealand Women by nine wickets in match number seven at Holkar Stadium in Indore. Batting first, New Zealand Women were bowled out for 231 runs in 47.5 overs. In reply, the Proteas Women chased the target in 40.5 overs.

Coming to bat first after winning the toss, New Zealand Women lost their first wicket on the very first ball of the match with Suzie Bates going on a golden duck after getting dismissed by Marizanne Kapp. Georgia Plimmer and Amelia Kerr added 44 runs for the second wicket. Kerr got out after scoring 23(42) runs while Plimmer contributed with 31 runs off 68 balls. After that, skipper Sophie Devine went on to play another captain’s knock as she scored 85 runs off 98 balls hitting nine boundaries.

Brooke Halliday also contributed with 45(37) runs hitting six fours. Apart from that, none of the batters at the lower order could get a big knock as Kiwi Women were bowled out for 231 runs with 2.1 overs remaining. For South Africa Women, Nonkululeko Mlaba shone with the figures of 4/40 in her 10 overs. Apart from that, Marizanne Kapp, Ayabonga Khaka, Chloe Tryon and Nadine de Klerk scalped a wicket each.

Chasing the winning target, South Africa lost their skipper Laura Wolvaardt early at the score of 26 runs in 2.5 overs. After that, Tazmin Brits and Sune Luus took charge of the innings as the duo put up a partnership of 159 runs for the second wicket. Brits got out after scoring a well-made 101 runs off 89 balls hitting 15 fours and a six.  On the other hand, Luus remained unbeaten on 82* runs off 114 balls as the Proteas Women chased the target with seven wickets in hand.
