Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Thursday, August 28 announced their 16-member squad for the upcoming Men’s Asia Cup 2025, set to be played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from September 9 to 28. Just days ahead of the tournament, SLC named their squad for the continental tournament, which will be played in the T20 format this year.

While the side will be led by Charith Asalanka, they have received a massive boost as star all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga has been declared fit for the marquee tournament. It is to be noted that the leg-spinning all-rounder missed a place in the squad for the Zimbabwe series due to a hamstring injury, which he sustained during the ODI series against Bangladesh.

As a result, the Lanka all-rounder also missed the subsequent T20I series against Bangladesh. However, with the boost of Hasaranga, Sri Lanka looks him in the plans for the T20 World Cup, set to be played in 2026. Furthermore, speaking of the squad, senior veterans like Dinesh Chandimal, Avishka Fernando, Eshan Malinga have been left out of the side whereas selectors have vouched on Nuwanidu Fernando, Kamindu Mendis, Chamika Karunaratne for the Asia Cup 2025.

Speaking of the continental tournament, Sri Lanka have been placed in Group B alongside Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Hong Kong. The Lankans will begin their campaign against Bangladesh on September 13, followed by a clash each against Afghanistan (September 16) and Hong Kong (September 18).
