Pakistani fast bowler Shaheen Afridi came up with a reply to the comments by Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav on the rivalry between both the teams on the cricket field. After a six-wicket win over the arch-rivals in the Super 4s clash of Asia Cup 2025 on Sunday, Suryakumar dismissed the notion of India vs Pakistan rivalry and said that India are way ahead of Pakistan on the field.

“According to me, if two teams play 15-20 matches and if [head-to-head] it is 7-7 or 8-7, then that is called a rivalry. But 13-0, 10-1….I don't know what the stats are. But this is not a rivalry anymore. But yeah, I feel we played better cricket than them,” said Suryakumar at the press conference after the match against Pakistan. Notably, India and Pakistan have faced each other twice in this Asia Cup so far where India has come out victorious on both occasions. Now, there is also a possibility for both the teams to lock horns again in the final of Asia Cup 2025.

We are here to win the Asia Cup: Shaheen Afridi opens up on possible IND vs PAK final

Shaheen Afridi also came up with a reply to Suryakumar Yadav’s comments on India versus Pakistan rivalry and opened up about the possibility of the final between both the teams. Talking about the scenarios for the final, India are yet to lose a game in the ongoing Asia Cup so far. They defeated Pakistan in their first Super 4s fixture and will advance to the final if they end up winning one out of their remaining two matches. On the other hand, Pakistan have won one and lost one game in Super 4s so far and need to win the upcoming match against Bangladesh to make it to the final.

“That’s his (Suryakumar Yadav’s) view, let him say. When we meet (in the likely Asia Cup final on Sunday), we will see kya hai, kya nahi. Tab dekh lenge. We are here to win the Asia Cup and we will give our best effort for that," Afridi said.
