The Indian cricket team will return to the field after a month long break following their 2-2 Test series draw against England in the United Kingdom (UK), early in August 2025. After registering a six-run win in a thriller at the Kennington Oval in London in the final Test, the Men in Blue will take the field for the first time, but in the shortest format at the Men’s Asia Cup 2025, underway in the UAE.
The Men in Blue will come together under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav as they eye to defend the Asia Cup title for record ninth time after lifting it previously in 2023 in the 50-over format. Placed in Group A alongside Pakistan, UAE and Oman, the Indian team will kickstart their campaign against UAE on Wednesday, September 10. But before we move ahead, when was the last time India played a T20I match?
When was India’s last T20I match?
It’s already been over a year that Suryakumar Yadav came into the leadership role after Rohit Sharma’s retirement following the T20 World Cup triumph in Barbados last year. Since then, India has played as many as 20 T20I matches. However, its been almost seven months that their last T20I was played when they hosted England ahead of the Champions Trophy 2025.
Hosting England for a five-match T20I series early this year, India thumped their authority, winning the series by 4-1 margin. The final T20I of the series came on February 2 at the Wankhede Stadium where India won the match by 150 runs after restricting The Three Lions at 97 all out in 10.3 overs.
But as the Men in Blue take the field, they will aim to continue their domination over UAE. The two teams have only faced each other once in a T20I, which came at the 2016 Asia Cup where India won by nine wickets.
