Not all is going well for the Chennai Super Kings. At times, they play well, but only in patches. but for the larger duration of their match, it just seems something is a mess. Have they even got the team combination right? Maybe what they immediately need is someone to lead from the front by way of example but that’s not been happening with Ruturaj Gaikwad. Most of the times the fans, wonder about this. Most other occasions, it seems that Chennai are simply complicit in lacking confidence. CSK have been one of the most successful and loved teams in IPL history, known for their consistency and calm approach. But IPL 2026 could be a tough season for them, with several challenges starting to show. If things don’t click, the five-time champions could surprisingly find themselves at the bottom of the table.
1. Team is getting older
A lot of CSK players are experienced, but age can slow things down in a fast format like T20.
Younger teams may simply be quicker and more energetic on the field.
Over a long season, this difference can really show.
2. Too dependent on a few players
CSK often depend heavily on stars like Ruturaj Gaikwad and MS Dhoni. That Mahendra Singh Dhoni is absent right now is not yelling well with the teams, overall make up. They are lacking in confidence. If these players don’t perform, the team can struggle to recover. Other teams with more match-winners have an advantage here.
3. Bowling is not very strong
Their bowling attack doesn’t always look threatening compared to other teams. They can leak runs, especially in the last few overs. In close matches, this can be the difference between winning and losing.
