Inside the making of Dada – The Sourav Ganguly Story ahead of 2027 release
The movie will capture Ganguly's dynamic trajectory, from his roots as a young talent in Kolkata to becoming one of India's most fierce, transformative captains who changed the attitude of Indian cricket internationally. It will also spotlight personal milestones, including his relationship with his wife Dona through a rumored musical sequence. To accurately absorb the "Prince of Calcutta's" specific mannerisms, swagger, and cricket posture, Rajkummar Rao stayed at Ganguly’s Kolkata residence. Additionally, Rao's real-life fluency in Bengali (learned from his wife, Patralekhaa) is helping him capture the required regional dialect and accent seamlessly. After kicking off production in early 2026, shooting has taken place across extensive real-life locations including Eden Gardens, Ganguly’s ancestral home in Behala, and the Dukhiram Cricket Coaching Centre in Kolkata where his career first began.
Future schedules are planned on-site at Lord’s in London and parts of Australia. Principal photography for Dada – The Sourav Ganguly Story officially began in April 2026. The production houses officially announced the start of shooting in the first week of April 2026. The crew wrapped up its first major leg of shooting in Mumbai studios, focusing primarily on indoor narrative scenes and family character interactions. The production team is scheduled to head to England this month (July 2026) to film the prominent overseas milestones at Lord's, The Oval, and Yorkshire.
