Former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu has slammed young cricketers for their ‘chit celebration’ in the Indian Premier League 2026. Not only this, but Rayudu has demanded that such chits should be banned. Rayudu’s comments came after young Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pacer Akash Singh picked three wickets against the Chennai Super Kings in their May 15 clash and brought out the trending ‘chit celebration’. After picking his first wicket in the form of CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, he pulled out a chit that grabbed everyone’s attention during his wicket celebrations.

However, his act has sparked a massive row among former cricketers including Rayudu, Dale Steyn, Mitchell McClenaghan and even LSG head coach, Justin Langer. Rayudu slammed young cricketers for bringing out such celebrations and said that it should be banned since it looks funny and rubbish. “I just think that's his manifestation. It may not go down well with a lot of people, but it's kind of funny and a bit of rubbish. I think they should ban these chits. Yeah, absolute nonsense, I mean. I don't think they're supposed to bring chits,” the former CSK cricketer said.

Geez, how many haters have you got: Mitchell McClenaghan on Akash Singh’s ‘Chit Celebration’

Former New Zealand speedster Mitchell McClenaghan also questioned the viral celebration and questioned why a younger player would think of such an act so early in his IPL career. Not only this, but he also questioned such players’ teammates and friends who back them up for pulling off something like this. "I just want to know at what point today he thought, hey, this will be awesome. Like, I'll pull this out on TV. Everybody will think I'm cool. Also want to know who his friends that he told backed him up and said that'd be a great idea. I'm actually flabbergasted with some of this generation that's coming through,” the former Kiwi player said on ESPN Cricinfo’s Time Out show.

“Like, you know, putting your fingers up on your first real performance on the IPL when you've only just turned up on the scene; we've only just learned your name. Stuff like that, it's like, "Geez, how many haters have you got, bro?" You've played four games. I just find it all fascinating. It's really interesting,” he added.

He further added, “Just never do that again. Hashtag, don't do that again." It's ridiculous.”

Notably, before Singh, CSK’s Urvil Patel and Mumbai Indians’ Raghu Sharma brought out such celebrations earlier in the season.
