The IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal made a statement regarding the plan of Cricket Australia to conduct the opening game of their Big Bash League in India. He believes that India is the leader of world cricket at the moment and that it is obvious that Cricket Australia knows what exactly to expect when they conduct a match in India. Arun Dhumal also made it clear that cricket is slowly expanding worldwide as it has also been included in the Olympics. He added that India has a lot to contribute for the sport in general and this could be one of the ways.

“See India is the biggest cricket market, so definitely Cricket Australia would want to capitalise on that and we wish all the best for their big bash inaugural game this season. India being the leader of world cricket has a lot of scope to add to world cricket. Since cricket is becoming part of the Olympics, it augurs very well for the game. For its global footprint to reach through their length and breadth across the globe,” stated the IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal on being asked about the Big Bash League opening fixture being hosted in India.

BBL's India opener could transform global franchise cricket

The Indian Premier League itself has emerged as the richest franchise cricket league in the world and the BCCI is the richest cricket board in the world as well. The kind of revenue that the BCCI is able to generate from broadcasting and commercials is massively huge. Big Bash League is also a prominent league but they will be hoping to expand on a larger scale.

The growth graph in terms of revenue for the IPL has mostly been positive but the growth of the BBL, hosted by Cricket Australia is under severe doubt. This proposal from Cricket Australia could give their league a huge boost to their revenue as well as in promoting viewership of the game.

“I'm sure they would have done their calculations and they are expecting a good boost to their domestic tournament and I'm very hopeful it augurs very well for world cricket at large,” said Arun Dhumal on being asked about the benefit that Cricket Australia could derive from the event.

The IPL chairman seems to be ambitious regarding the expansion of the sport around the world especially with such initiatives. The boost in revenue for Cricket Australia could be a very profitable one as the Indian fans will turn up in huge numbers for the cricketing event. Arun Dhumal also stated that he hopes that such matches could help world cricket entirely.

The Indian fans would be absolutely thrilled to see the matches of the BBL as it is one of the most competitive leagues around the world. Even though it may seem a bit complex from outside for the teams to travel between countries mid-tournament, it could play a crucial role in the development of the Big Bash League.
