Like Babar Azam? Don’t like Babar Azam? Here is a fact and it’s quite simply that one cannot possibly ignore Babar Azam. Someone somewhere in the cricketing world and it’s a bight and big cricketing galaxy, it has to be said, is either mocking him, appreciating him or simply waxing lyrical about the huge champion of the game that the Pakistan cricketer can be someday. And here’s the truth! Even if someone isn’t talking necessarily about just how important a batter he is to his team at present, then the fact that he is constantly compared to the cricketing demigod with the bat, Virat Kohli, often tends to increase the Pakistan right hander’s stocks- should one it that way!
Interestingly enough, even when Babar Azam doesn’t know anything stupendous himself- he finds a mention on social media courtesy trolls.
And at times, truth be told, it can all get too funny. As was also the case on this particular occasion where inspite of being the victorious captain in the final of the 2026 edition of the Pakistan Super League, Babar Azam found himself trolled and poked fun at.
So what was the reason behind Babar getting trolled
To his discredit, as he walked up on stage to collect the winner’s trophy, with his winning Peshawar Zalmi team having scored the winning total of 130 (in just 15.2 overs, which was a respectable feat), Babar suddenly paused and perhaps emulated the very same gesture and movement as the world had seen from Rohit Sharma in the case of the T20 World Cup winning trophy (as seen at Barbados in 2024).
Babar Azam tried to copy Rohit Sharma's iconic wall celebration after winning the PSL but badly failed. This guys are so obsessed with IPL and Indian players 😭 pic.twitter.com/Nb1QYzhiC2

Alas, there was a difference
In Rohit, the winning Indian captain’s case, as was evident two years ago in the West Indies, Rohit did a slow almost robotic move to reach the Dias where he collected the prize trophy. But out here in Pakistan, in rendering what can perhaps at best be called a cheaper version of the victorious Indian captain’s signature move, Babar did a more rampant action of the now famous move.
This lead to countless fans over X and Instagram making fun of the Pakistani batter.
Interestingly, Babar Azam scored a first ball duck in the second inning of the game’s run chase and found himself out no too long after he walked into the pitch to score some runs. But he made none.
And the batter who scored the most runs from either side in yesterday’s noted PSL final was Saim Ayub. The youngster scored a thrilling 54.
At this time of his career, Babar ought to note the consistency and vigour with which he can bat and bat long for Pakistan and perhaps guide a rising younger generation of batters who are perhaps just as keen as his noted or distinguished self to take the country’s cricket to its next hopefully revered chapters. Perhaps that is the ideal contribution of a cricketer of repute like Babar, even if with not so stunning dance moves out in the middle! What do you reckon!
