On this day, May 5, 2022: David Warner shines against his former team as Delhi Capitals beat Sunrisers Hyderabad. It was the 50th match of the Indian Premier League 2022 between Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad. It was Delhi Capitals batting first and David Warner who has been an icon for SRH having led them to the title back in 2016 was representing Delhi Capitals against his former side. Delhi Capitals lost a wicket in the first over as Mandeep Singh was dismissed for a duck.
David Warner started really well and put the SRH bowlers under pressure. Mitchell Marsh was the next to be dismissed as Delhi Capitals were jolted in the powerplay. Rishabh Pant along with Warner put up a partnership but just as they were going well they lost the wicket of Rishabh Pant for 26. The game was in the balance as Delhi Capitals was 85/3 at the end of nine overs. Rovman Powell walked in and straight away took on the bowlers.
Rovman Powell smashed 67 runs from just 35 balls while David Warner scored an unbeaten 92* as Delhi Capitals finished with 207/3 at the end of the first innings. It was a special knock from Warner against his former franchise. Delhi Capitals posted a massive total and were in control at the halfway mark. Chasing the target, Sunrisers Hyderabad lost two quick wickets in the powerplay and were under huge pressure in the chase.
Nicholas Pooran smashed a fifty and put up a good partnership with Markram to bring Sunrisers Hyderabad back in the game but once he was dismissed, Delhi Capitals bowlers were excellent in the middle overs. Sunrisers Hyderabad finished with 186/8 at the end of the innings as Delhi Capitals picked up the win by 21 runs. David Warner was the player of the match and this coming against his former franchise would have meant a lot for him.
