The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly in talks with the Men’s Selection Committee chairman Ajit Agarkar to extend his contract. As per reports, the office bearers of the Indian cricketing board will meet Agarkar following the completion of the Sri Lanka series to discuss his potential one-year extension. Agarkar will complete three years as chairman in September, but is eligible for a one-year extension per rules. 

Earlier, there were reports that the former Mumbai cricketer is unlikely to get an extension, which comes in light of differences of opinions between the selectors and BCCI selectors over the future of former skipper Rohit Sharma. Not only this, but sources also suggested that head of the Centre of Excellence (CoE) VVS Laxman could replace him at the helm of the selection committee. However, as per the latest developments and reports from The Indian Express, the BCCI officials will meet Agarkar to offer him extension of his contract. 

BCCI to Meet Ajit Agarkar to Discuss One-Year Extension

Now, the latest reports suggest that the leadership of the Indian board will meet Agarkar to discuss his extension for his next one year. They want to meet the former cricketer and sit down with him to thrash out whether he gets an extension or not. According to IE, the BCCI now wants selectors to judge Sharma’s place in the team series by series, keeping the door open for his participation in the 2027 ODI World Cup rather than coming up with a discussion now. 

For the unversed, there is a difference of opinion between the selectors and BCCI about Rohit Sharma’s future. While the selectors want to move on from Sharma and prepare Yashasvi Jaiswal for the marquee tournament, the BCCI is planning something else. While there were rumours that the England ODI at Lord’s could be Sharma’s last international appearance, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told the press that Rohit "will continue to represent the country as long as he is in the scheme of things".
