Heavy rain stopped play mid-match at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet on Friday night, but the ground staff refused to let the interruption spoil the mood. During the match between Saint Lucia Kings faced the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons in the Caribbean Premier League, groundsmen ran out with the protective covers. Instead of just laying them down and waiting, several of them broke into an energetic dance right on top of the wet sheets. Local music was ringing over the stadium speakers. The groundsmen slid, spun, and danced in time with the beat making their work into a party. Spectators in the stands cheered and filmed the scene while the rain continued to fall.  

A clip showed a groundsman in a blue shirt sliding across the cover on his back. Another captured another one in a yellow rain coat face-down on the sheet, still moving to the song. A third performed a handstand-like move on the grass nearby. Videos of the moment spread quickly across social media. Fans called the staff “open-hearted and pure” and praised the pure Caribbean spirit on display. The official CPL account posted the footage with the caption “Rain Break done RIGHT!”

Saint Lucia Kings beat Antigua and Barbuda Falcons in a final over thriller

Saint Lucia Kings claimed a thrilling three-wicket win over Antigua and Barbuda Falcons under the DL/S method at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium on Friday night and moved to the top of the CPL 2026 table. Kings won the toss and opted to bowl first. The visitors never found batting tough on a tricky surface. Matthew Forde was excellent with the new ball and finished with 4 for 29. Rahkeem Cornwall played a cameo with 26 off 17 balls and Amir Jangoo scored 23, but regular wickets kept them behind the game. Roston Chase’s spell of 2 for 7 from four overs and Joshua Bishop’s 2 for 16 ensured that Falcons ended up with 98 for 9 in 19 overs before rain ended their innings.  

The target was first revised to 84 in 15 overs. Rain arrived once again after just eight balls of the chase and the target was further reduced to 52 runs in eight overs. After the break, Saint Lucia Kings collapsed to 21 for 6 inside five overs as Shamar Springer picked up 3 for 13 and Joshua James scalped 2 for 13. Forde counter-attacked with 11 off seven balls including a four and a six before getting dismissed. They were struggling at 33/7. Joshua Bishop played a cameo of 12 from 10 balls and Shadley van Schalkwyk smashed 8 runs of 3 balls as they clinched the win for Kings with two balls remaining sealing a 3 wicket win. Forde’s all-round performance won him the player of the match.
