The 29-year-old cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir, Auqib Nabi has generated quite some interest about his game and talent for quite some time but hasn’t yet been able to find a way into the Indian Dressing room. However, all of that could actually change for the right arm medium fast who’s been a critical force in action for the Ranji Trophy tournament in its recent run. With the series against Sri Lankan having recently been completed and the contests around New Zealand forming the next focus area for Indian cricket, it appears that things could finally get into motion for Nabi as far as his dreams with Indian cricket stand.
No randomspeak this! It turns out that the BCCI are trying their best to have the seam bowler find a spot in one of England’s prestigious county sides in order to hand critical experience to the developing fast bowler who’s not yet made his debut with the men’s senior side.
At the moment, it is being said that Surrey are looking for a fast bowler in its current capacity and that is where things could go right for the bowler, should the powerful BCCI and the noted County side manage to have a fruitful discussion, which is being hoped for.
It has to be noted that Auqib Nabi claimed no fewer than 104 wickets across the last two Ranji Trophy seasons. And this, rather remarkably included 60 wickets last season to help Jammu and Kashmir win their maiden Ranji Trophy title. If this wasn’t special, then one wonders, what is.
While the likelihood of Auqib Nabi playing in English County cricket is still subject to final discussions so that he can find a place, what many are already saying is that the fast bowler could have been tried there earlier at the start of the summers as the wickets in England by now turn placid.
Furthermore, many are already suggesting that England cricket legend Alec Stewart, who is in a critical role at Surrey is himself involved in these discussions. And basically the idea behind this move is for Auqib Nabi to get at least 2–3 red-ball matches in English conditions rather than sit idle. He wasn’t t played in Sri Lanka as one noted.
With such good talent at hand and someone who’s already played for the Delhi side in the 2026 IPL, it would be nice to see the passionate fast bowler in an Indian jersey soon.
