Devdutt Padikkal’s hundred also created a special Independence Day moment. According to reports, he became the first Indian to score a century on Independence Day, August 15, adding a unique piece of history to his breakthrough innings. Indian wicketkeeper and batsman KL Rahul was forced to retire hurt after scoring a composed 77 during India’s first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle. The experienced opener faced 162 deliveries, hitting nine boundaries and one six. He formed a crucial 150-run partnership with Devdutt Padikkal after Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed for 32.
