Indian batter Devdutt Padikkal came up with a remarkable 167-run knock for the visitors in the first Test against Sri Lanka. The Indian batters took on their neighbours in the historic 600th Test at the Galle International Stadium in Galle, which kicked off on August 15. The Indian side started the game on a positive note as they won the toss and invited the rivals to field first. While the visitors received an early setback in the form of Yashasvi Jaiswal’s dismissal, his fellow co-opener KL Rahul scored 82 runs after getting retired hurt at 77 on Day 1.

However, on Day 2, Padikkal resumed his batting on 131, and went on to post a gritty 167 off 230 deliveries. His knock helped the Indian side put up on a front foot and exert dominance in the opening Test. The No.3 batter hit a total of 15 boundaries and one maximum before getting dismissed off a Prabath Jayasuriya delivery in the 92nd over.
