England have announced their provisional squad for the 2026 T20I World Cup and also the Sri Lanka tour. Jofra Archer has been named in England’s provisional 15 men squad despite nursing a left side strain that ruled him out of the Ashes. The squad also includes Josh Tongue, uncapped in international limited-overs cricket and he has been preferred over Carse for the WT20 squad.
England also announced their ODI squad for Sri Lanka tour with all the regular players featuring. Jamie Smith who played the last nine ODI matches has been dropped from the squad and Zak Crawley has replaced him. Joe Root is also part of the squad and this would be the last assignment for him in international before the home summer. Ben Duckett has also made it to both the squads. Meanwhile, allrounder Will Jacks is back in both squads after missing the New Zealand tour,
The ODIs are important in England’s bid to qualify automatically for the 50-over World Cup in 2027. The top nine in the rankings will secure a place in the tournament in southern Africa and England currently lie eighth. Despite the quick tight turnaround from the Ashes, captain Harry Brook leads a full-strength squad. England leave Australia after the fifth Test on 9 January and fly to Sri Lanka to 18 January. The first ODI is on 22 January.
