Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman could be staring at a potential suspension following a controversial ball-tampering incident during a recent Pakistan Super League 2026 clash. The incident occurred during Lahore Qalandars’ match against Karachi Kings, where the team was penalised five runs after on-field umpires raised concerns about the condition of the ball.
According to reports, Fakhar has been charged with a Level III offence under the PCB’s code of conduct, which relates to altering the condition of the ball — a serious breach in professional cricket. If found guilty, the left-handed batter could face a suspension ranging from one to two matches, which would be a significant setback for Lahore Qalandars in the ongoing tournament.
The alleged incident took place during a crucial phase of the game, with umpires noticing irregularities in the ball’s surface. After inspection, the officials deemed that the condition had been unfairly altered, leading to the imposition of a five-run penalty against Lahore. The matter was then escalated to match referee Roshan Mahanama, who will oversee the hearing.
Fakhar Zaman is expected to contest the charge during the official hearing. His response and the evidence presented will play a crucial role in determining the final verdict. A Level III offence, if proven, typically carries heavy sanctions, including suspension and fines, given its impact on the integrity of the game.

This development comes as a blow for Lahore Qalandars, who are already struggling to find consistency this season. Fakhar has been one of their key players at the top of the order, and his absence, even for a single game, could disrupt their batting combination.
Ball-tampering remains one of the most sensitive issues in cricket, with strict rules in place to maintain fairness. The PCB is expected to take a firm stance to uphold the spirit of the game. All eyes are now on the hearing, which will determine Fakhar Zaman’s immediate future in PSL 2026.
