Indian batter Harleen Deol heaped praise on Sree Charani for her heroics in the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. Deol appeared in an interview with Star Sports where she lauded India’s rising spinning star. She stated that India hasn't seen a talent like Charani in a really long time. Notably, the 21-year-old bowler from Tamil Nadu has become the leading wicket-taker in the ongoing edition of the tournament, picking 12 wickets, which also happens to be the highest for an Indian in one edition of the competition.
Speaking about the same, Deol said that Charani is one of a kind and such kind of bowler has played after a really long time for the Women in Blue. “I hadn’t seen a left arm like her for a really long time in the Indian team. Earlier there were many left arm bowlers in the team, but got to see one after a really long time.” “Cherry enjoys bowling, and there are not many players who enjoy doing it. We have to stop her saying, ‘Cherry, it’s over,’ but she wouldn’t stop and would always want to throw ‘one more’.”
Notably, Charani has played 21 ODIs for the Indian side with 27 wickets to her name at an average of 38.2 and an economy of 5.69. She has appeared in 24 T20Is thus far with 40 wickets and the best figures of 4/12. In India’s victorious campaign in the ODI World Cup 2025, she picked 14 wickets in nine games.
Australia know the threat Harmanpreet Kaur Poses- Harleen Deol
The Indian team is set to lock horns with Australia in a do-or-die clash on Sunday, June 27. Speaking ahead of the clash, Deol said that everyone knows the kind of threat Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur poses against the Aussies. “Everyone knows her record against Australia, and I am sure she also knows and has that confidence going in the game.” When it comes to them, I think the first player they plan against is her.”
She added that what makes a player great is that they stand against their rivals in pressure situations and bigger games. Moreover, Deol also went on to say that Kaur has done well for the side, and she will do the same in the upcoming game as well. It is to be noted that the Kaur-led side needs to win their next Group A clash, to boost their chances for semi-final qualification.
