India's historic victory in the first-ever women's Test at Lord's concluded with a heartwarming gesture that truly embodied the spirit of the game. Just moments after clinching a commanding 270-run win over England at the iconic Home of Cricket, the Indian Women's Team took a moment to honor retiring England legends Heather Knight and Tammy Beaumont with signed jerseys and heartfelt tributes.
This emotional farewell marked the end of an era for two of England's greatest cricketers as they stepped away from international play. Smriti Mandhana presented Knight with an India jersey featuring her own name, and the two shared a warm embrace, transforming a remarkable sporting milestone into a touching display of respect between competitors.
The celebrations continued as Jemimah Rodrigues hugged Beaumont while the Indian players applauded the England opener. Beaumont was presented with a jersey signed by the entire Indian squad. Speaking during the presentation, Jemimah said, "You know cricket is all about making memories. And we, as the Indian team, just want to leave you with a small memory on your last match for England. Congratulations and all the best for everything."
The moment drew smiles and applause from players and officials at Lord's.
Heather Knight and Tammy Beaumont’s Legacy for England Women’s Team
The Lord's Test brought down the curtain on two remarkable careers that have significantly influenced modern English women's cricket. Knight and Beaumont were pivotal during England's ascent in the world of cricket, playing key roles in the team's achievements over the past decade. Knight, as captain, steered the team through one of its most successful eras, while Beaumont established herself as one of the most dependable opening batters on the international stage.
Knight made her debut for England in 2010 and went on to participate in 320 international matches, amassing an impressive 8,017 runs across all formats. She captained England from 2016 to 2025, leading the team in 199 games and securing victory in 134 of those.
Her crowning moment came at Lord's in 2017 when she lifted the ICC Women's World Cup trophy after England triumphed over India in the final. Knight also earned her place among a select group of players who have scored international centuries in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is, with her unbeaten 168 against Australia in the 2022 Ashes Test standing out as one of her most memorable innings.
Beaumont's England journey began in 2009 and stretched across 17 years. She finished with 4,738 ODI runs, 1,975 T20I runs and 614 Test runs, including a historic double century against Australia in 2023. Her 12 ODI hundreds remain the most by an England woman batter. Beaumont was also the leading run-scorer in England's 2017 World Cup triumph and won the Player of the Tournament award. Together, Knight and Beaumont leave the game with records, trophies and a lasting influence on English cricket.
