Lucknow Super Giants skipper Rishabh Pant found himself in hot waters after his old statement trolling the Punjab Kings resurfaced on the internet. On Sunday, April 19, the Kings handed the Lucknow-based franchise a humiliating 54-run defeat, marking their third loss in a row. The game saw Shreyas Iyer and Co. batting first and putting up a mammoth total of 254 runs in seven wickets. Opener Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly destroyed the LSG bowling lineup and came up with splendid knocks of 93 runs off 37 balls, and a 46-ball 87.
As the Sanjiv Goenka-owned side failed to chase the giant total, Pant’s old comment on the franchise resurfaced on the internet. Notably, after being roped in by Lucknow Super Giants for a price tag of INR 27 crore in IPL 2025 auction, Pant trolled PBKS and said that his only fear was that he could land in Punjab, since they had the biggest purse. However, he admitted that the tension reduced after they roped in Shreyas Iyer at a price tag of INR 26.75 crore.
“I only had one tension, that was Punjab (laughs). They had the highest purse. When Shreyas went to Punjab, I felt I could make it to LSG. There was a possibility. But eventually, with auction you never know, so I just thought I would wait and watch, and had my fingers crossed,” Pant had said.
However, what followed after was unexpected for the Indian wicketkeeper-batter as the Shreyas Iyer-led side defeated them on three consecutive occasions, twice in IPL 2025 and now in IPL 2026.
X schools Rishabh Pant after LSG suffer three successive losses
Needless to say, after the side earlier led by KL Rahul, suffered its fourth loss of the season, netizens went to X and schooled the Indian cricketer. Not only this, but even PBKS took a dig at the cricketer with a video. Here’s how X reacted-
Rishabh pant is over I guess so much talent in India is very tough .
