The Royal Challengers Bengaluru star all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer has made his mindset clear about his future stating that he could still get back into the Indian side. It could seem a bit too ambitious for the experts and fans considering the current competition in the Indian side. Venkatesh Iyer was an interesting prospect for all the franchises in the tournament at the time of his debut and now he seems to be getting back to his best. Iyer’s vision is undoubtedly a very far-sighted desire but he could try his absolute best and make a strong case for himself in front of the selection committee.
“I still feel I can get back to the Indian team”, stated Venkatesh Iyer on his desire to get back into the Indian side. It definitely isn’t too late to get back into the Indian side and he could get himself an opportunity with some consistent domestic performances. He has been absent from the international scenario for more than 4 years and he could make a return to India’s squad. Venkatesh Iyer’s performance in the IPL will give him a great deal of confidence in the coming games.

Venkatesh Iyer’s dream comeback with RCB in IPL 2026
Venkatesh Iyer’s resurgence in the IPL in this year was nothing short of extraordinary as the scenario was set up perfectly for him. The unavailability of Rajat Patidar in the game against the Punjab Kings in the league stage forced RCB to bring in Venkatesh Iyer.
He scored a sensational half-century and even went onto win the Player of the Match award. Then due to the unavailability of Jacob Bethell, he began to open the innings with Virat Kohli and he continued the role till the final. Every game, he walked out to bat with the sole intent to take on the opposition bowling unit and he created a terrific impact in almost every game that he played.
There has been a positive effect on the out-of-form batters that have come to RCB and much of the credit would go to Dinesh Karthik. Venkatesh Iyer was there in RCB’s plans in the IPL 2025 auction itself but their dream came true only in IPL 2026. He waited patiently all season for a chance and when it came, he grabbed the opportunity with both hands.
Venkatesh Iyer will still need to prove a lot in the domestic circuit and in T20 cricket as well. He has certainly proved that he has the capability to play according to the modern game but consistency is a key factor. With some phenomenal numbers in domestic T20 cricket, he could portray himself as an option that is too difficult for the selectors to ignore.
